Earthion Sustainability Mission Milestones on Acer Green Day
Acer Green Day – Acer is pushing more partners and suppliers to join forces in avoiding negative environmental effects and conserving valuable resources by moving toward a circular economy as environmental challenges become more urgent. Constructive and group efforts are required to solve the urgent concerns caused by the rising number of natural disasters worldwide that are linked to climate change.
It is essential to take coordinated action because this can considerably magnify the environmental benefits. The Thomson Reuters Foundation[2] states that in order to preserve the 1.5 degrees Celsius warming ceiling and reduce the detrimental effects of climate change on the earth and its inhabitants, efforts in climate and nature concerns will need to be increased in 2022.
More than ten years ago, Acer started integrating sustainable business principles into its operations. In order to pinpoint risks and identify opportunities throughout its supply chain, the company has been using the CDP Supply Chain since 2008. Starting this year, coverage was expanded to three tiers of suppliers. Acer started notably increasing the recycled content of their notebook PC packaging in 2013. With over 70% of employees participating globally[3,] Acer established Project Humanity in 2017 to bring together all employees globally in building a sustainability framework for eco-friendly initiatives.
Acer Green Day
Acer began collaborating closely with partners and suppliers to bring environmentally friendly technologies to market in 2021 after launching the Earthion initiative with an emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG).
In order to provide customers with greener options, Acer’s Vero range of eco-conscious products was introduced in 2021. Vero goods are made using recycled and eco-friendly materials, and they are built to last longer so that less material is used and more waste is generated overall.
Systems for ethical manufacturing and logistics
Acer has increased its cooperation with partners Compal and Quanta to improve their waste management systems in an effort to lessen the environmental impact of production operations. Acer is collaborating with its partners and suppliers to develop more responsible manufacturing and shipping operations, from minimizing the usage of plastic bags on the production line to implementing improvements toward sustainability in suppliers’ manufacturing systems.
Another crucial step toward Acer’s green policy was the creation of a carbon accounting system for its transportation-related operations, especially in light of the fact that the freight transportation and logistics sectors are responsible for around 10%[4] of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. The system, which will eventually be used globally, offers a standardized method for measuring and disclosing Acer’s greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
Vero Line of Eco-Aware Products
In order to lessen pollution from the creation of virgin plastic and garbage, Acer introduced the Vero line with the Aspire Vero laptop, its first “green” focused notebook, which was constructed with 50% PCR plastic for the keyboard caps and 30% PCR plastic for the chassis. The device was also created to make maintenance and upgrades easier in order to increase their longevity.
The Acer Chromebook Vero 514, which was just announced, is the newest item to be added to the Vero portfolio, which has grown to include business laptops, monitors, projectors, desktops, accessories, and more. Vero is pushing the boundaries of recycled material adoption in its product line.
The packaging for the Aspire Vero has also been completely redesigned in compliance with a design system that encompasses a variety of product lines, device sizes, and packing components. An honoree of the Red Dot Brands & Communication Design awards for package design, the outside box is constructed of 80–85% recycled paper pulp, and paper sleeves rather than plastic bags are used to preserve adapters. Additionally, the keyboard sheet and laptop bag are manufactured entirely from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate).
It has always been difficult to strike a balance between sustainability, the utilization of recycled resources, and product longevity. Acer has tirelessly sought out novel approaches to incorporate more environmentally friendly materials without compromising sturdiness and durability with the help of its designers and partners, including Golden Arrow, Shin Shin, Sun Young, Quanta, and Wistron. As Acer gets closer to its objective of using up to 30% PCR plastic in all of its key products by 2025, it is looking for innovative and environmentally friendly materials for upcoming product development.
Solutions for Smart Cities that Save Resources
Acer has been working on smart city solutions that reduce resource waste and promote more effective and sustainable lives in line with its objective to offer more environmentally friendly product designs.
By 2035, source only renewable energy.
The Acer Group committed to sourcing only renewable energy by 2035 and joined the RE100 programme in 2021. Acer operations started using green energy as early as 2011, with some locations even installing solar panels to generate their own power. This is in addition to launching the “Earthion” platform and adopting the CDP’s global disclosure system. By the end of 2020, Acer offices in more than 30 countries will be powered entirely by renewable energy, and the Acer Group will use 45% renewable energy overall.
Acer thinks that in order to truly impact sustainability, the entire world must contribute. Acer also wants to provide customers the option to select ecologically friendly items.
