Covia Mexico Helps Town Build Fish Farms

Covia Mexico

Covia Mexico thinks that we can make a difference in the world. This idea, combined with our fundamental values of Being Different and Acting Responsibly, motivates our involvement in global initiatives and local communities around the world.

Covia has spent years focusing its international efforts on investments in our Mexican communities, notably San Lorenzo, a small community located near our factory in the south of Jáltipan, Veracruz, Mexico. In conjunction with the community and other local stakeholders, we launched the Granjas de Peces (fish farming) initiative to foster entrepreneurship and local economic development in San Lorenzo. Through the construction of tilapia fish farms, this self-employment programme has assisted several families. Covia has developed over 20 ponds in the neighbourhood to date, each administered by a different company.

Each family in the programme sells an average of 66 pounds of fish each month, providing a reliable source of revenue and subsistence for these families.

We look forward to replicating this programme with additional families in San Lorenzo and contributing to the well-being and quality of life of our neighbouring towns. More information on the Granjas de Peces (fish farming) initiative programme is available in the video above.
