Sustainability Industry Leadership for Abbott

In order to ensure that we continue to have a good impact for future generations, we have maintained for close to 135 years both a clear and significant objective — assisting people in living their fullest lives via improved health.

Clarity of purpose and dedication to upholding this impact for the population we serve are the two characteristics that define what sustainability means to Abbott and direct our 2030 Sustainability Plan. They also serve as the foundation for our efforts to define sustainability in healthcare by achieving the highest levels of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

Abbott received the highest rating in our sector, Health Care Equipment and Supplies, on the 2022 Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the tenth consecutive year (DJSI). Abbott was listed on the Dow for the 18th year in a row this year.

The index, one of the most esteemed global benchmarks for corporate sustainability, honours businesses from all around the world for their exceptional ESG performance. Our long-standing dedication to sustainability in health and our comprehensive strategy for providing outstanding performance across all ESG areas are reflected in our industry leadership on the DJSI.

Abbott

On December 9, 2022, it was confirmed that Abbott had been included to the DJSI and had received the highest overall rating of 79 out of 100 in the category of health care equipment and supplies. Abbott ranked first overall in the sector and also received the highest score in the Social Dimension category (the “S” in ESG), with outstanding results in the particular metrics of contributing to positive health outcomes, social reporting, human capital development, and attracting and retaining talent.

Part of Abbott’s sustainability focus on innovation for improved access and affordability in health can be seen in our high rating in the Social Dimension. By the end of the decade, we hope to have improved the lives of 3 billion people annually, or one in three people on the earth, thanks to our ambitious 2030 Sustainability Plan.

The best way for us to make a difference is to carry out our corporate mission statement, which is to “deliver life-changing technologies and goods to the people and places who need them. In order to enhance access to our products and remove obstacles that keep people from receiving the treatment they require, we are incorporating affordability into them, explained Robert B. Ford, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Abbott.

Abbott has rose from No. 51 to No. 12 overall among 500 firms to be designated one of Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies 2023. Additionally, Abbott was once again included in the Wall Street Journal’s Management Top 250 list, coming in at number 36 and receiving “5 star” ratings for both innovation and social responsibility.
