Discovery Education and Dollar General Literacy Foundation join hands

Discover Literacy, a new education effort supported by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and launched by Discovery Education today, will promote literacy across the country. Discover Reading is a strong collection of free in-school and out-of-school digital tools for teachers, students, and caregivers that aims to assist in the development of essential literacy skills in K–2 pupils.

The standards-aligned learning materials from Discover Literacy are created for use in any setting. Discover Literacy offers educators, students, and afterschool professionals six to eight minute microlearnings that provide hands-on learning for an explicit, systematic approach to instruction as well as opportunities to practice new skills. These microlearnings address the five key literacy topics of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. With support from research, the partnership also upskills teachers and after-school workers.

Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, expressed her excitement about the organization’s plans to assist in supplying teachers with exciting activities for students and research-based microlessons. Strong literacy abilities provide the foundation of an excellent education. We are delighted to collaborate with Discovery Education and the National Afterschool Alliance to provide classrooms all throughout the nation with top-notch literacy tools.

The National Afterschool Association is another collaborating partner who offers knowledge and experience to include and assist afterschool practitioners. More than 30,000 professionals who are members of the NAA work with 600,000 adolescents through community-based, school-based, and for-profit afterschool programmes.

According to research, literacy development is crucial to students’ performance and a top priority for schools. According to Amy Nakamoto, general manager of social impact at Discovery Education, “We are pleased to collaborate with Dollar General and the National Afterschool Association to offer instructors cutting-edge resources that empower students with literacy skills.”
