DP World Partners With Enel Peru To Advance Use of Renewable Energy, Carbon Neutrality

Through a new cooperation with Peruvian energy supplier Enel Peru, DP World, a global provider of end-to-end supply chain solutions, has made a critical step toward its objective of attaining 100% carbon neutrality by 2030. Through this collaboration, DP World will earn its first worldwide I-REC Standard accreditation, certifying that the company will be able to use 100% renewable energy to power its activities beginning in 2023.

The Green Certificate Company issues the I-REC Standard certificate, an internationally recognized standardized renewable energy certificate, to prove the usage of 100% renewable energy sources. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), the most extensively used carbon footprint accounting standard by big corporations worldwide, accepts it.

The certificate certifies that DP World used exclusively hydroelectric energy in 2023, obtained from Enel Peru’s Matucana hydropower plant, a run-of-river power station located roughly 40 miles east of Lima. The award, which DP World will receive in 2024, highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to decreasing its carbon footprint and advancing sustainable energy solutions as it seeks to decarbonize its global operations.

“DP World Callao is the first port in the world to use 100% renewable electrical energy in all of its operations.” We use this energy to power mobile equipment like dock and yard cranes, vans, and, soon, electric trucks at the port. Furthermore, this strategy is not confined to the port but is used throughout our logistics business. These activities are consistent with DP World Peru’s ambitious ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, which includes other methods such as operational efficiency and digitalization, among others,” stated Nicolás Gauthier, CEO of DP World Peru.

Enel Peru Country Manager Marco Fragale stressed the company’s contribution in driving carbon neutrality throughout Peru. “We promote alliances like this one every day in order to advance Per’s energy transition and engage various business sectors in this endeavor.” “We facilitate and operate the use of energy from 100% renewable sources with DP World and several other companies, allowing more projects in the private and public sectors to contribute to sustainability and society at large,” he said.

Enel Peru issued five I-REC certificates and 35 Green Certificates in 2023, with eight more in the works. These activities represent the company’s continued commitment to decarbonize its energy mix in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action, of the United Nations.
