Entergy wins National Award for Commitment to Economic Development
Business Facilities magazine named Entergy a top U.S. utility for our commitment to economic development. In this national roundup, we are one of only 14 utilities recognized.
“Entergy offers much more than just electricity and natural gas. We are dedicated to improving the lives of our customers and communities “said Mark Kleehammer, Entergy’s vice president of commercial and industrial journey and products. “This recognition as a top utility in economic development reflects our on-going commitment to giving back to the Entergy region and identifying opportunities for business relocation and expansion within our service territories,” says a spokesperson for Entergy.

Customer collaborations
Investments in our region represent a diverse range of industries and companies from around the world, with which we collaborate closely for the benefit of the communities we serve. Recently, U.S. Steel and Entergy Arkansas teamed up to build a $3 billion next-generation steel mill in Northeast Arkansas. The project is expected to generate 900 jobs in the surrounding community.
Entergy Arkansas has a long history of working with commercial and industrial customers. We provided a special rate contract on electricity and $73 million in substation and transmission line construction in 2015 to help facilitate the development of Big River Steel, bringing $1.3 billion in investments to Arkansas.
Grid stability
Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans have established comprehensive Future Ready plans to address the ongoing threat of severe weather. They’ve also filed regulatory documents to improve the resilience of our region’s electric infrastructure, which will improve our ability to withstand and recover from major weather events.
Education and training for the labor force
We are a recognized leader in corporate citizenship, with roots in the Gulf South region dating back more than a century. Through the Entergy Charitable Foundation, Entergy has awarded $80.7 million in educational grants to support workforce development across our four-state region since 2006.
Environmental longevity
We reaffirmed our 2020 commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 in 2022, and we expect to achieve 50% clean, carbon-free power generation capacity by 2030. We also plan to cut our carbon dioxide emissions by half by 2030.
In addition, for the 21st consecutive year, Entergy was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, a global standard for benchmarking corporate sustainability performance. We maintain our industry leadership as one of only four electric utility companies included in the 2022 North America Index.
Economic development history
For the past 15 years, Site Selection magazine has recognized Entergy as a major economic development player in the communities we serve, which include some of the largest and most power-intensive industries in the country.
We secured $39.5 billion in capital investments in 2022, announced 75 new projects, and helped create nearly 24,000 new jobs in the Entergy region. In addition, our approximately 12,000 employees have a long history of giving back to our communities.
Entergy launched a cutting-edge site selection website in 2008, providing prospective customers with the tools they need to locate commercial and industrial properties. There are currently 1,700 site listings on the website. We also provide site selection, project management, large project management, and contracting services.
