LyondellBasell Sustainability Report – Businesses can have a significant impact on communities both inside and outside their own walls. Consumers, investors, and employees are increasingly expecting organisations to have a clear purpose. Purpose-driven firms can reap numerous benefits from having a clearly articulated vision, including the ability to tap new revenue streams, improve operational efficiency, and attract and retain excellent people. According to a recent study, purpose-driven businesses acquire market share faster and grow three times faster than their competitors on average.1 According to a new World Economic Forum analysis, businesses with a clear purpose are better at protecting people and the environment and are more likely to inspire trust.2

OUR GOALS

Every day, operate safely with no issues, injuries, or accidents.

By 2032, achieve gender equality in senior leadership globally. · By 2032, achieve a general population ratio of people from underrepresented groups in U.S. senior leadership.

By 2025, we will have assessed at least 70% of our significant suppliers globally using sustainability standards.

OUR GOAL: OPERATE SAFELY EVERY DAY AND WITH ZERO INCIDENTS, ZERO INJURIES AND ZERO ACCIDENTS

Our main concerns are the health and safety of our employees as well as the communities in which we operate. Our safety rules apply to everyone involved in our business, including workers, contractors, and suppliers working on our properties. LyondellBasell facilities are among the safest in our sector, with top decile safety performance when compared to other big and medium-sized corporations in the American Chemistry Council.

We closely monitor safety concerns, thoroughly analyse events and near misses, and take corrective measures to prevent recurrence. We prioritise identifying and reducing potential workplace dangers in order to prevent incidents and injuries. We undertake risk evaluations for potentially dangerous work. As needed, these assessments might range from safety checklists to full job hazard appraisals.

GoalZERO is a vital tenet of our culture. GoalZERO is our commitment to operating safely with zero injuries, zero process safety, zero product safety, and zero environmental problems. We foster a GoalZERO mindset through clear standards, regular communication, training, targeted advertising, and events, such as our annual Global Safety Day, where all employees commit one day to learning about safety at work and at home.

A performance dashboard is used to continuously monitor health, safety, and environmental (HSE) metrics. Every industrial site establishes targets to improve process safety, occupational safety, and environmental incidents.

Our commitment to GoalZERO is championed at all levels of the organisation and is managed by our Board’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability Committee. An excellent safety culture begins with senior management, including the CEO. Managers from each manufacturing site meet on a regular basis to examine safety performance and discuss concerns specific to their operation. HSE awareness teams investigate events and look for measures to prevent them in the future. Office and site meetings often begin with a safety message.

We are quite proud of our 2022 safety performance. Our Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) was 0.12, a record low performance and top decile for our industry. A total of 21 manufacturing facilities accomplished more than 1 million safe work hours.
