TD Africa Celebrates IWD With Seed Fund

TD Africa – The historic initiative is being carried out through “The HERwakening,” a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) vehicle pioneered by TD Africa with the goal of supporting and empowering female entrepreneurs.

Female business owners who are retailers of mobile devices and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) or prospective female entrepreneurs having to look to start a business in these identified areas are eligible for the seed fund. Applications for seed funding will be accepted from Wednesday, March 8, 2023 (International Women’s Day) to Saturday, March 18, 2023.

“TD Africa is dedicated to transforming lives in Nigeria. In line with the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, we recognise as a company that equal opportunities are insufficient. As a result, we are going a step further to ensure true inclusion and belonging through equitable action by granting seed funds to female entrepreneurs,” said Mrs. Chioma Chimere, Coordinating Managing Director.

“Technology is still a male-dominated field. However, we are optimistic that this seed funding will go a long way towards promoting equity and providing more women with opportunities to excel in the industry. We are excited to see dreams come true as a result of this initiative. The HERwakening seeks to alleviate the hardships and challenges that women-owned businesses face. It also demonstrates our commitment to impacting and empowering female-led businesses and entrepreneurs across Africa with the necessary resources and technical assistance to ensure the viability of their ventures.”

In addition to the seed funds, she revealed that TD Africa will continue to provide mentorship and training to effectively equip female entrepreneurs with the right tools to achieve business growth, profitability, and long-term success.

As previously stated, the seed funding is aimed at prospective and existing mobile device and FMCG retailers/resellers. Following registration, business owners will go through two screening rounds in which they will pitch their ideas. Each successful participant will receive N2m, as well as free business mentoring and consultation.

The intervention of TD Africa is motivated by global trends that show that more women are actively starting and leading businesses, even as the company reports a visible increase in female participation in the male-dominated IT ecosystem. Nonetheless, TD Africa is convinced that enormous untapped opportunities remain.
