Walgreens has announced its participation in the next Friends for Life (FFL) conference as the premier sponsor of Children with Diabetes (CWD), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and support to families living with type 1 diabetes. Walgreens will be the sole pharmacy sponsor of the annual event, which will be held in Orlando, Florida, from July 4th to July 9th. FFL brings together devoted experts, adults, children, and families with diabetes for a weekend of inspiration and community building.
“As someone who is thriving with diabetes, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to have resources and a community pharmacist available when navigating my condition,” said Tracey Brown, EVP and President, Walgreens Retail & Chief Customer Officer. “Walgreens is thrilled to be sponsoring Children with Diabetes’ FFL event as we work together to make a difference in the lives of the 122 million people living with diabetes and pre-diabetes so that they can live a more joyful life through better health.”
“Friends for Life is about empowering families and people living with diabetes to live healthy, enriched lives, and with Walgreen’s support, we’re able to do just that,” said Jeff Hitchcock, Founder, President, and CEO of Children with Diabetes. “Each year, the conference serves as an opportunity to educate the community about a wide range of cutting-edge diabetes management tools, including some from Walgreens.” It will be fantastic for our attendees to see such things in person in Orlando.”
Tracey Brown and Shauna Markes-Wilson, Walgreens director of pharmacy and retail operations for the Georgia/Florida North area, will speak throughout the conference as part of the company’s dedication to the event’s objective. Furthermore, during a session led by Kendal Whitlock, head of digital optimization for Real World Evidence Clinical Trials, and Ebony Scott, senior manager of patient and community engagement digital optimization for Real World Evidence Clinical Trials, Walgreens will demonstrate how it is driving the next generation of clinical trials.
Walgreens is also teaming with Instacart to set up an in-conference pop-up shop inside the retailer’s booth for Walgreens brand diabetes supplies, first-aid basics, and sun care goods, among other things. The Scan & Pay technology from Instacart will power the pop-up shop. Customers can shop by scanning product barcodes in their cart with their mobile device’s camera and then checking out swiftly with digital payment. This is the first time Scan & Pay technology from Instacart will be used at an event.
